Planning Your Next Corporate Event: Cool Things to do in Downtown Raleigh

Downtown Raleigh is the epicenter of North Carolina’s history. Often referred to as the “City of Oaks,” Raleigh is busting at the seams with amazing restaurants, bars and landmarks that tell a rich southern history. When planning a corporate event, Raleigh has something for everyone, with interesting places to discover and explore.

#1: North Carolina State Capitol Building

Opened in 1840, the North Carolina State Capitol Building is a National Historic Landmark. The capitol building provides both self-guided and guided tours and is an educational way to kick off a corporate event hosted in the Raleigh Area.

#2: North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

With four floors dedicated to everything from fossilized dinosaur bones to a tropical dry rainforest, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science is a fascinating place to visit. With a variety of spaces available to host events (for up to 2,000 guests), the museum is a unique setting for a corporate retreat or team building experience. Don’t forget to get a team photo in front of the 5 stories tall and 70 feet wide earth globe!

#3: Tour of the Raleigh Murals Project

Raleigh is known for its temperate weather and beautiful summer days, so consider hosting a corporate event focused on the Raleigh Murals Project. With ten memorable murals dedicated to the city’s rich history, your guests can stroll the Raleigh streets and get memorable Instagram shots.

#4: Artspace

A non-profit visual arts center, Artspace features national and local artists with creative space for artist residencies, exhibitions, arts education and community outreach. Artspace also doubles as an event space where meetings and conferences can be held any time during business hours, evenings and weekends.

#5:  Morgan Street Food Hall

Morgan Street Food Hall features local eateries and restaurants that focus on cross-meal ordering. The open space and outdoor seating make it a great location to share a meal while taking in the sights of downtown.

#6: Fayetteville Street

The heart of downtown Raleigh, Fayetteville Street is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. From April to September, there is a weekly Farmers Market and plenty of music festivals like Wide Open Bluegrass and Hopscotch. With the ability to “Sip n’ Stroll” the streets, Fayetteville Street is a great stop on any corporate event itinerary.

#7: Historic Oakwood

Historic Oakwood is a 19th-century neighborhood located near downtown Raleigh. Streets lined with well-preserved Victorian and early 20th-century homes, the neighborhood is designated on the National Register of Historic Places. If planning a corporate event during December, roughly a dozen homes open their doors for the Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour. Consider ending the tour at a local bar and beer garden known as the Tap Yard..
